Palestinian writer Mahmoud Maw’ed’s literary works conveyed the pains of Palestinians to the entire world

Through his literary works, Palestinian writer Mahmoud Mawed, carried the just Palestinian cause and the pains of the Palestinian people because to the occupation wherever he had been, as he committed himself to this cause and adopted it as patriotic and literary path to be his message to the world.

Dr. Mahmoud Mawed (1942-1997) was one of the most prominent story writers of Palestine. He was born in Saffuriyya in Al-Naṣirah (Nazareth) and had resided in Damascus since the Palestinian Nakkba in 1948, where he managed to integrate into the Syrian society and established good relations with Syrian writers. He presented a prolific production, most notably his collections of stories “Quatrains of Death and Madness” and “The Wheezing of Mirrors” and among his poetry collections “Plums from Palestine” poetry in French.

The writer has also literary contributions to all Syrian governorates, through which he was keen to introduce his intellectual trend.

Regarding the late Dr. Mawed, the head of the Arab Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad al-Hourani, said in a statement to SANA News Agency: “He was an honest writer, committed to the cause of Palestine, keen to let the whole world know the Palestinian wound, not only that but he also dealt with intellectuals with great love and loyalty.”

For his part, poet and translator Imad Mahmoud Maw’ed, the son of the late writer, referred to his father’s keenness to deal honestly with all writers, as he always grieved for any Arab affliction, expressing it through his writings, and he also conveyed the pain of Palestine to all parts of the world, as he wrote about it in Arabic and translated the books into other languages.

Maw’ed passed away in 1997, he studied at the University of Damascus and held a number of positions, including Director General of the Department of Education and Higher Education in the Palestine Liberation Organization.
