Palestinian Prisoners Affairs warns of deteriorating health of prisoner Abdel Baset Maatan

The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission has warned of the deterioration of the health of Palestinian detainee Abdel Baset Maatan as a result of the Israeli occupation authorities’ refusal to provide him with the necessary treatment.
The Commission made a statement today, which has been reported by Wafa Agency, that the prisoner Maatan, 49, from the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah, had been diagnosed with colon and gland cancer for several years, and before his repeated arrest, he underwent several complex surgeries, during which part of his colon was removed, and chemotherapy sessions affected his condition and led to his injury with discs in his back, however, the occupation forces re-arrested him last month, even though he spent 9 years in the occupation prisons.
The Commission indicated that Maatan’s health condition requires close follow-up for fear of the disease spreading again, but the occupation authorities deliberately neglect his condition and do not provide him with the necessary medications for his condition and prevent him from being referred to a specialist oncologist.
The Commission called on the international community and human rights institutions to intervene immediately and urgently in order to release him and all the sick Palestinian prisoners whose lives are threatened inside the occupation detention centers in light of the deliberate medical negligence policy pursued against them.
Yesterday, the Palestinian Prisoners Club warned of the deterioration of the health of Palestinian prisoner Iyad Hrebat as a result of the Israeli occupation authorities’ procrastination in providing him with the necessary treatment and an urgent operation due to his current suffering from an opening in the abdomen.
