Palestinian prisoner Awawda continues his hunger strike despite his deteriorating health condition

Despite his dangerously deteriorating health condition, the Palestinian hunger striking prisoner in Israeli occupation jails Khalil Awawda continues his hunger strike for 161 days in protest against the occupation’s aggressive practices towards the Palestinian prisoners and in condemnation of his detention.

WAFA News Agency reported on Saturday that Awawda on Friday rejected a decision by an Israeli military official suspending his administrative detention and decided to continue with his hunger strike demanding complete cancellation of the detention order.

Awawda has been on hunger strike for almost six months demanding an end to his prolonged administrative detention.

According to Hassan Abd Rabbo, a spokesman for the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, the health condition of Awawda is critical and he can hardly move or talk.

Awawda launched his hunger strike in March and he completed 111 days before ending it on June 21 after the Israeli authorities promised to end his administrative detention. However, he resumed his hunger strike on July 5 after Israel broke its promise and instead of releasing him at the end of his administrative detention in June, renewed it for four more months.

Abed Rabbo added that the two brothers: Ahmad Hussein Mousa, 44, and Adal Husssein Mousa, who were detained by the Israeli occupation in August 7, 2022, continue with their hunger strike for the 14 consecutive days. One of the two brothers suffers from heart problems, Abed Rabbo clarified.
