Palestinian politicians say US announcement on Israeli settlements disregards international laws

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, (ST)- Palestinian politicians have affirmed their rejection of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s latest announcement that his administration does not consider that the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories as a contradiction to the international law. They have called on the international community to condemn this announcement because it disregards the international laws.

Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative Mustafa al-Barghouthi reiterated in a statement to SANA that Pompeo’s announcement disrespects international laws, stressing that neither Washington nor the Israeli occupation values international laws. He called on the international community not to keep silent over this US behavior.

On his part, spokesman of the Palestinian government Ibrahim Milhem urged the international community to respond to the US announcement, which contradicts the Security Council’s Resolution 2334, by supporting the Palestinian people’s right to establish their independent state based on the borders of 1967. He stressed that this US decision is of no value.

Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Wasel Abu Yousef said that the US announcement came within the framework of Donald Trump’s administration’s scheme to liquidate the Palestinian cause and undermine the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights in order to assist the Israeli occupation in capturing 63% of the West Bank and kill the Palestinians’ hope for establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Abu Yousef asserted that the Palestinian people will confront and foil this ominous decision through their steadfastness and resistance and through adherence to their land.

In the meantime, Osama al-Haj Ahmad, a leader in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that Pompeo’s announcement is part of the so-called Deal of the Century which aims at undermining the Palestinian cause.

He called on the Arabs to respond to this announcement by boycotting the US products and halting some Arab regime’s attempts to normalize relations with the Israeli occupation.
