Palestinian Foreign Ministry: The Non-Aligned Movement’s approval to sue “Israel” is consistent with the movement’s principles

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Non-Aligned Movement countries’ welcome to sue “Israel” before the International Court of Justice is consistent with the movement’s principles and goals.

Wafa Agency quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement today: “Palestine highly appreciates the announcement by the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement during the nineteenth summit at the presidential level and heads of government in Kampala that they welcome the litigation procedures before the International Court of Justice initiated by the Republic of South Africa against “Israel,” the authority of occupation for its violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The member states further welcomes the request submitted by South Africa to the court to impose precautionary measures, including stopping Israeli acts of genocide.”

The Foreign Ministry added: The declaration was consistent with the principles and goals of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the Charter of the United Nations and international law, in a manner free from selectivity and double standards, as the member states of the movement affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue and adhered to their historical, principled and common position on the necessity of ending Israeli occupation, colonialism and injustice.

The Foreign Ministry indicated that the Non-Aligned Movement added its voice to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States, which are organizations that represent the majority of countries and peoples of the world, and meet to determine their moral, legal and political responsibilities, and their obligations towards the Palestinian people, their cause and their struggle for dignity, freedom and independence.

The Foreign Ministry called on all countries to assume their responsibilities and obligations, refrain from politicizing the International Court of Justice and the procedures brought before it, and prove their readiness to be responsible-enough countries to work together to protect the law and its sovereignty.
