Palestinian Foreign Ministry : Preventing UNRWA from operating in northern Gaza Strip deepens famine

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the decision of the Israeli authorities to no longer approve the passage of the agency’s food convoys into the region.

“The decision is very dangerous, as it will deepen the famine and murders through starvation and thirst,” the Palestinian Wafa News Agency qouted the Palestinian ministry as saying in the statement.

The ministry also saw the decision as “a direct threat to a prestigious and credible UN institution that serves the issues of Palestinian refugees and is concerned with their rights, not only in the occupied Palestinian territory, but also for Palestinian refugees in the region, especially their right to return.”

The ministry added “It has become clear that the occupation is actively targeting UNRWA and is working to destroy it, kill its staff, and put it out of service with the aim of changing the identity of the strip so that it becomes depopulated, within the framework of the war to liquidate the Palestinian cause.”

The ministry urged the international community and the US administration to seriously confront “this dangerous Israeli decision which entails the killing and displacement of civilians” and to intervene immediately to halt its implementation before it is too late.
