Palestinian Foreign Ministry calls for providing international protection to Palestinian education institutions

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has renewed its call on the international community, mainly the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to guarantee the right of the Palestinian students in education and to provide protection to the Palestinian education institutions.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ barbaric storming into Birzeit University in the West Bank on Tuesday and attacking the university’s guards, stressing that this act of aggression is a blatant violation of the international law and norms.

The ministry pointed out that this attack is part and parcel of the occupation’s continuous crimes against the Palestinian people and their lands, sanctities and establishments, including the schools and higher education institutions in the West Bank. It affirmed that these attacks aim at putting more pressure on the Palestinians, displacing them and seizing their lands so that the occupation can easily continue implementing its settlement expansion scheme.
