Representative of Palestinian factions, popular organizations, unions and institutions on Saturday gathered in front of the UN Headquarters in Damascus to stand in solidarity with Syria.
Participants in the satnd called for lifting the blockade and the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the West on Syria and for providing all forms of support for the Syrian people to help them face the repercussions of the earthquake that hit the country earlier this month.
In a letter, the participants urged the UN Secretary General to assume his responsibilities at the Security Council, UN General Assembly and all UN humanitarian bodies as to lift the blockade and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria.
They called on all countries and international humanitarian institutions to break this unjust blockade and immediately provide assistance to Syria to help it confront the disastrous repercussions of the earthquake.
“The earthquake that rocked Syria killed and injured thousands of Syrians and Palestinians in the country and caused destruction and cracks to thousands of houses. It also resulted in a humanitarian catastrophe in the light of an unfair blockade and sanctions imposed by the United States and some western countries, which exacerbate the Syrians’ suffering at all levels.
