Palestinian Education: Israeli occupation’s threat to demolish 36 schools is part of its war on identity
On August 4th, the Palestinian Ministry of Education warned of the danger of the Israeli occupation’s plans to demolish 36 schools in the West Bank, pointing out that it is part of its war on the Palestinian national identity.
Wafa news agency quoted Ministry of Education spokesman Sadiq al-Khaddour as saying that the number of schools threatened with demolition and located near settlements is 36, including 6 in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
Al-Khadour stressed that the Israeli occupation’s delivery of notices of demolition and closure of schools is increasing and falls within the framework of an ongoing systematic targeting of education, especially in the Masafer Yatta area in Hebron and in Jerusalem.
He said that the Israeli notices of demolition come within the framework of the occupation’s plans to displace Palestinians and strike the pillars of education that preserve the Palestinian national identity in the face of Judaization.
Late last month, the Israeli occupation authorities issued an arbitrary decision to close 6 Palestinian schools with more than 2,000 students in Jerusalem, which the Palestinian Foreign Ministry considered an integral part of the process of Judaizing the city and abolishing the Palestinian presence in it.
