Pakistani passenger jet crashes to the south of the country

Karachi (ST): A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane traveling from Lahore to Karachi crashed close to Karachi airport.

 The civil aviation agency said the Airbus A320 was carrying 99 passengers and 8 crew members from Lahore to Karachi, but it did not give details about survivors.

Pakistan’s military said that army helicopters  were deployed to assess the damage and to take part in the rescue operations.

The Pakistani International News Website said that several buildings were damaged as a result of the crash.
