DAMASCUS, (ST)_ According to a Gallup poll whose findings were released on Friday, some 68 percent of those surveyed opposed the US military intervention and said Washington should not get more involved in the internal affairs of Syria.
According to Press TV, the poll, conducted on May 28-29, also showed that only 24 percent of people in the US support military intervention in the Arab country.
Based on the poll results, 49 percent of the respondents are following news about the crisis in Syria “very” carefully.
The US is already supplying the militants operating in Syria with intelligence and funds while its regional allies are providing them with weapons.
Last month, former US Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned against Washington’s military intervention in Syria, saying the US military involvement in Syria crisis would be a “mistake” and that the outcome would be unpredictable and messy.
Syria has been gripped by turmoil since March 2011 and the foreign-sponsored militancy has taken its toll on the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on May 18 that militants from 29 different countries were fighting against the government in different parts of the country.
