Over 200 cyclists ride to New Fairgrounds in promotion of Damascus International Fair

Damascus – In preparation for the opening of the 59th edition of Damascus International Fair, a cycling marathon on Monday headed from the Umayyad Square in Damascus towards the New Fairgrounds on the Damascus International Airport highway.

The event was held by the ministries of Tourism and Information in cooperation with Syrian Cycling Union. 200 cyclists from national teams participated in the marathon, in addition to a number of players who participated in the Third National Youth Olympiad and a number of cycling lovers.

 

Information Minister Mohammad Ramez Tourjman affirmed that this marathon proves to the whole world that Syria is moving forward and that the culture of life among Syrians is stronger than terrorism that has been targeting them for seven years, SANA reported.

On the participation of the Ministry of Information in the exhibition, Tourjman said the

Ministry’s pavilion includes two sections, the first one is a media service center that provides information and logistics services to local journalists and Arab and foreign correspondents, and the second includes the public institutions of the Ministry of Information.

For his part, Tourism Minister Bishr Yazigi said that the Ministry continues to provide tourist facilitations to the visitors of the exhibition, noting that the Ministry will hold a number of tourism and promotional activities during the exhibition, including a flower exhibition, a handicrafts and traditional crafts exhibition and internal tourism exhibition in which tourism establishments and companies affiliated to the Ministry will participate.

In turn, Director of the General Establishment for Exhibitions and International Markets Fares Kartli said that more than 40 countries will participate in the Fair, in addition to a wide local participation over an area of 74,000 square meters.

The Chairman of the Syrian Cycling Union Mohammad Khudr said that this sport activity comes in cooperation among the Ministries of Tourism and Information and the General Sports Federation.

Damascus International Fair, the famous and well-reputed Fair has defied all the extremely harsh coercive economic measures imposed unilaterally on Syria to be revived and held on August 17-26, surpassing all the repercussions of the war and succeeding to attract many Arab and foreign companies to join its activities.
