Our Community in Cuba: Measures imposed on Syria represent economic terrorism

Havana (ST):  The students and members of the Syrian community in Cuba  have called for lifting the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union on Syria, which constitute economic terrorism, stressing that the effects of these measures affect all segments of the Syrian people, which these countries claim are eager to help.

In letters that representatives of students and members of the community in Cuba addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations through the UN Office in Cuba and to Pope Francis of the Vatican through the Vatican Embassy in Havana, in addition to a letter to the European Union mission in Cuba,  the signatories emphasized the need for states to fulfill their moral and legal duties and obligations, and for the Security Council to take deterrent and urgent measures against terrorist organizations and against states that sponsor and support them that violate Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism and threatening international peace and security.

The letters also demanded  respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and the right of the Syrian people to choose their leadership and build their future without any dictates or external pressures, calling on all countries to initiate constructive dialogue with the legitimate government in Damascus based on respect, cooperation and sincere intentions in combating  terrorism and achieve security and stability in the region.
