Budapest (ST): Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stressed that Western countries would have avoided the huge costs incurred had they pursued peace in Ukraine.
Orban was quoted by TASS news agency as saying: The conflict in Ukraine is costing Western countries huge costs, not only with regard to financing the Ukrainian army, but also to rebuilding the Ukrainian economy and maintaining the performance of the state there, noting that in Ukraine they cannot pay pensions or maintain the infrastructure for that. They turned to the European Union for a donation of money, that is, they simply asked for money.
The Hungarian Prime Minister made it clear that he did not want the EU to turn from a community of states into a community of debtors, stressing that Budapest had consistently opposed joint borrowing from the EU not only with regard to Ukraine but also in other cases.
