Operetta “A Homeland and A Nation”… An artistic performance by young people that highlights the ancestors’ heroism

Al-Sobki Garden in Damascus was colored with love and life by the sounds of children and youth who performed the operetta of “The Homeland and Nation”, which was held  by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Revolutionary Youth Union to celebrate both Evacuation Day and International Quds Day. The Ministry’s Orchestra and Choir, led by Maestro Kamal Skeiker, performed the ceremony.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, explained that the ministry has a joint program with the Youth Organization and other popular organizations and professional unions of vanguards and teachers to develop student activities with a view to enhancing the personality of the youth.

“The songs they performed marking the Evacuation and the International Day of Al-Quds bring to mind the glories of the homeland after the war it had fought, as its youth are determined to rebuild it with a renewed mentality,” the minister added.

The head of the Youth Union, Sumer Faisal Zaher, confirmed that the event reflects the participatory relationship between education and youth, as the artistic factor is a polarizing factor with the participation of the Ministry of Education orchestra and crowds of ambitious Syrian youth, believing in supporting our core and major issues and Palestine at the forefront.

Director of Artistic and Sports Activities at the Ministry of Education, Lana Zakour emphasized the importance of music and concerts as a cultural, civilized, national, and historical dimension by commemorating our national occasions to remain alive and immortal in the minds of generations. She believed that the choice of the Sobki Park in the center of Damascus was aimed at spreading joy and music among a larger number of people and attracting them to learn about these events and participate in.

Head of the School Theater Department, Kamal Skeiker, stated that the participation of the Ministry of Education’s orchestra and choir on the event is part of its artistic project to integrate history with music, so that music has a role in the educational process.

Young singers Ziad Ammouna and Rawan Makled, 16 years old, expressed their pleasure to participate in the lyrical operetta (Homeland and Nation). They performed works they described as songs of the beautiful time from the fifties and sixties of the last century recounting the heroic history of the Arab nation to spread the spirit of resistance among young people and deliver the message that the Palestinian cause is the nation’s first and highest goal.

The event included patriotic and national songs by senior Arab composers and authors, such as the musician Muhammad Abdel Wahhab and poets Ali Mahmoud Taha and Nizar Qabbani.
