The activities of Food and Packaging Industries Exhibition “Food Expo 2022” kicked off on Saturday evening in Damascus Fairgrounds. The exhibition is organized by Delta Company for International Exhibitions and Conferences in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, the Chamber of Industry in Damascus and its countryside, and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Agriculture.
Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh pointed out, in a statement to reporters, that holding the exhibition comes in light of the efforts of all local companies, including public sector companies, to develop their food industries and methods of packaging and present them for export in global markets by relying on local agricultural products. He highlighted the permanent and continuous cooperation between the Ministries of Industry and Agriculture in securing Agricultural products used in the food industry.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Muhammad Hassan Qatana pointed out that the Syrian food products, which are popular in the internal and external markets, depend on local agricultural products, indicating that national companies seek to dispense with imports with regard to packaging, preparation, production and food mixtures.
Head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, Muhammad Abu Al-Huda Al-Lahham underlined the importance of the exhibition due to the high quality of locally produced food products it offers which are prepared for export in light of the increased demand for them in foreign markets despite the difficulties they face. He pointed to the role of the Federation of Chambers in facilitating the operations of export and import of raw materials for packaging.
Vice-President of Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry and Head of the Exporters Committee Louay Nahlawi,, considered that the importance of the exhibitions lies in opening export horizons in light of the presence of visitors from outside Syria. He highlighted the importance of the export-oriented industrial production support program for the year 2022 launched by the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade in encouraging production by stimulating exports.
The CEO of Delta Group Ghiath Shammaa, said that the Food Expo constitutes an opportunity for businessmen, industrialists, wholesalers, exporters, importers, stakeholders and those interested to learn about the latest ideas and innovations, sign deals, and shed light on ways to activate the commercial movement.
The exhibition will continue until the 8th of this month. The exhibition’s activities during its third day include a food industries forum entitled “obstacles and solutions towards a competitive food product,” in addition to a workshop on quality management systems related to food safety that will be held during the fourth day.
