The opening ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024 kicked off on Friday with Syria’s participation.
Syria will be represented in this major event by six champions in different sports. The champions are the show jumper Amro Hamsho, the weightlifter Maan As’ad, the swimmer Omar Abbas, the Judo player Hasan Bayan, the gymnast Leith Najjar and the runner Alisar Yusuf.
It is to be noted that Syria won four different medals throughout its participation in the past Olympics events. The first medal was a silver one that came through wrestler Joseph Atiyeh in 1984 in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. The second was a gold medal obtained by athlete Ghada Shouaa in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 in the heptathlon competition, while boxer Nasser Al-Shami won the bronze medal in the Athens 2004 Olympics, and the last medal was a bronze one won by weightlifter Maan Asaad in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
