On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, Sabbagh meets Abdullahian, Pedersen, and the chief advisor to the President of Eritrea

New York (ST): The head of the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian ways to strengthen the strategic and distinguished bilateral relations and accelerate their development in a number of important areas.

During the meeting, which was held in New York on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly, the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria was stressed in addition to continuing efforts to combat terrorism until its final elimination, as both sides underlined the importance of the meetings held in the Astana format to achieve greater stability and security in the region.

Sabbagh also met with the chief political advisor to the President of Eritrea, Yemane Gebreb, and discussed with him ways to strengthen relations between Syria and Eritrea, and the need to intensify consultation between the two sides was emphasized.

Sabbagh underlined the importance of joint action, including within the framework of the Group of Friends of Defending the Charter, to expose the disastrous effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on a number of countries, including Syria and Eritrea, and to include them on the agenda of all high-level meetings and international summits held under the umbrella of United nations.

In this context, Ambassador Sabbagh, during his meeting with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Syria, Geir Pedersen, pointed out the flagrant violations of the provisions of the United Nations Charter and international law in Syria, resulting from the continued Israeli attacks on Syrian sovereignty and the illegal American and Turkish military presence in northern Syria, in addition to the inhumane economic measures represented by the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria that exacerbate the suffering of Syrians.

In turn, Pedersen presented the results of the meetings he conducted during his stay in New York with a number of officials in the region and outside it, as part of the efforts he is making to implement the mandate entrusted to him.
