On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians, there is demand for the implementation of international decisions to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital

On November 29th of every year, the world commemorates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which was acknowledged by the United Nations General Assembly in 1977.

This day affirms the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

This day is an opportunity to remind the world of the tragedy of the Palestinian people that resulted from the ill-fated Balfour Declaration in 1917, which marked the beginning of the usurping Israeli entity on this land.

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly issued Resolution 181 which is known as the partition resolution.

The memory comes this year amid a fierce Israeli settlement attack to annex more of the occupied Palestinian lands with the absolute support of the American administration, which announced at the beginning of this year the so-called “Deal of the Century”.

The Palestinian National Council said that while the Palestinian people are remembering the 73rd anniversary of the partition resolution, they are calling on the United Nations to fulfill its legal and moral obligations towards Israel to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian National Council called on the international community to put pressure on the Israeli occupation to halt implementing its plans to annex parts of the West Bank, especially in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) ,Wasel Abu Youssef stated that solidarity with the Palestinian people is achieved when the United Nations takes serious action to protect their legitimate rights.

Abu Youssef added the Palestinian rights include the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194 and establishing clear mechanisms that oblige the Israeli occupation to stop ethnic cleansingcrimes.

For his part, Vice President of Fatah Movement Mahmoud al-Aloul said that the Palestinian struggle is the bright face of all defenders of freedom in the world.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Maryam Abu Daqqasaid that the Palestinian people were able, with their steadfastness and the free people of the world standing by them, to turn the memory of the partition decision into a day of global solidarity with it against the Israeli occupation and its imperialist and colonial supporters.

The Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouti, affirmed that the Israeli occupation does not care about the statements of the international community in which it supports the rights of the Palestinians.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Talal Abu Zarifa, stated that the Day of Solidarity should be an occasion to support the rights of the Palestinian people.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian People’s Party, Walid al-Awadsaid that the Day of Solidarity represents recognition of all peoples of the world and their liberation of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and establish an independent Palestinian state.

The Head of the NGO Network, Mohsen Abu Ramadan, called on the parliaments of the world to adopt decisions that support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, freedom and independence.

Abu Ramadan indicated that it is unreasonable for the United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian issue, which exceeded 750 decisions, to remain on paper, calling on the international community to oblige the Israeli occupation to implement international legitimacy decisions.

The United Nations declared that its adoption of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People provides an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the Palestinian issue has not been resolved and that the Palestinian people have not yet obtained their inalienable rights as defined by the United Nations.

The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People holds a special session annually at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity.
