On the initiative of India, launching a camp to install 500 artificial limbs for war-wounded and people with disabilities

Damascus (ST): The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Indian Embassy in Damascus yesterday launched the second camp for the installation of 500 lower prostheses for wounded Syrian Arab Army and persons with disabilities, at the Vocational Rehabilitation Institute for People with Disabilities in Damascus.
The camp, which is implemented by the Indian Mahaweer Association for the Rehabilitation of the Handicapped, in partnership with the Syrian Step Association for Prosthetics and the Social Welfare Association (Excellence in Orphan Sponsorship), will last for 42 days, and includes beneficiaries from different governorates.
The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Muhammad Seif El-Din, said in a statement to reporters that the installation of prosthetic limbs contributes to giving new life and hope to the groups affected by the terrorist war on Syria, noting that the project’s goal is also to integrate persons with disabilities, empower them in society, practice their own work andlead their normal lives.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, explained that the camp is a humanitarian message from the friendly Indian government, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was a symbol of peace, and that this initiative has a historical meaning for India, pointing to the strong bilateral relations, stressing that India  has a principled position on the terrorist war against Syria, through its presence in the Security Council, and its support for the position of the Syrian government, its political independence, and its territorial integrity.
The Indian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Awsaf Sayed, indicated that the camp gives a message of peace and humanity from Damascus, and that the Indian government is ready to provide all possible support for capacity building and human resource development for Syrian youth, pointing out that India has provided about 1,000 scholarships for Syrian students, and work is currently underway to grant 200 additional scholarships.
