On the anniversary of the October War of Liberation the people of Daraa talk about details they will not forget in the war of honor and dignity

Daraa (ST): The memories of those who lived through the October liberation war, young or old, have been revived for most of them relive the details that carry with it the joy of memory, the joy of victory, and the spark of will that rose from the ashes of the 1948 Palestinian catastrophe and the setback of June 1967.

On the 49th anniversary of the Tishreen Liberation War, and despite the passage of decades, the victory remains a bright page in the lives of those who lived through the war. How can they not see in Tishreen liberation a vessel that carried their feelings and aspirations to the shore of victory, pride and dignity.

In his conversation with the news reporter, Colonel Bassem Khouzama recalls the sayings of his father, the fighter Abdul Karim, who participated in the ranks of the Syrian Arab Army in the October War, and who was captured by the enemy forces after his tank was hit.He describes the high morale of the brave army when the war began, as they rushed to fight with hearts that do not know the impossible, and they fought battles with their eyes on the Golan, and their hearts yearning to liberate the land and restore the dignity and pride that were broken during the days of the Nakba and the setback.

For his part, the writer, Secretary of the Daraa branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Hussein al-Rifai, spoke about the days of the October war, and he was also in the second year at the Faculty of Law, saying: We lived through a series of setbacks that passed through the Arab nation, and we felt a deep wound, but hope was renewed in 1973 when the response came. In the afternoon of the sixth of October of that year, the Syrian radio announced that the army began moving towards the Golan, announcing the start of battles to restore the usurped land and liberate it from the clutches of the Zionist enemy.

He added: We were living in a situation that cannot be described after the years of defeat. The occupation planes are being downed in the sky of Damascus with the missiles of the Syrian Arab Army, and we hear the news from the residents of Damascus who are standing on the rooftops watching the battles in the airspace of the capital, and when the Israeli planes fall, they would start clapping. All the Syrians were eager to see the defeat  of the enemy’s army and were waiting for the joy of liberation and the restoration of dignity.
