On International Women’s Day…the suffering of Palestinian women has worsened as a result of the occupation’s practices

As the women of the world celebrate the eighth of March International Women’s Day, the suffering of Palestinian women is exacerbated as a result of the practices of the Israeli occupation as many Palestinian women suffer chronic diseases and urgently need treatment.

In a statement on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Palestinian Prisoners Club stated that the Israeli occupation continues to detain 32 Palestinian women in the Damon prison, including 11 mothers and the girl Nafouz Hammad, 15 years old, in addition to 6 wounded women who have been subjected to the worst types of psychological and physical torture since their arrest dates. The Club pointed out that the suffering of wounded and sick female prisoners is constantly aggravating due to the deliberate medical negligence against them.

The Club indicated that the prisoner Israa’ al-Jaabis needs a series of surgeries to her hands, ears and face, and she is in dire need of a special suit for treating burns. The Club appealed to the international organizations concerned with the affairs of prisoners to pressure the occupation to stop its violations of the rights of female prisoners and all Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails.

Palestinian Minister of Women’s Affairs Amal Hamad said that Palestinian women stand side by side with men in the battle against the occupation, which violates all Palestinian women’s rights. The Minister called on all women of the world to stand by the Palestinian women in order to end their suffering and shed light on the violations of the occupation against Palestinian women, particularly female prisoners who are subjected to various types of torture inside the Israeli jails.

Human rights researcher Hussein Hammad stated that since the eighth of last March, 60 Palestinian women have been martyred, including 22 girls, and 645 were injured as a result of the occupation’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Maryam Abu Daqqa, who is a liberated captive, indicated that all women of the world celebrate their day, except for the Palestinian women who live under the most dangerous and the ugliest occupation that has practiced racial discrimination and persecution against them for 74 years in horrific ways and in flagrant violation of all international norms and laws.

Abu Daqqa confirmed that the Palestinian women are actively participating in the process of national liberation to resist this occupation, and this is what is happening in all of Palestine in terms of the stability of Palestinian women despite all the aggressive practices of the occupation.

For his part, Mahmoud Khalaf, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, stressed that the Palestinian women set an example in sacrifice and redemption in order to defend Palestine, and the Palestinian women are the icon of struggle, steadfastness and resistance to the occupation, which committed crimes against Palestinian women through field executions and brutal attacks that resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of them.

Khalaf warned of the deterioration of the conditions of female prisoners inside the occupation’s prisons, especially the wounded and the sick Palestinian female detainees, calling on the international community to urgently intervene in order to pressure the occupation to release the endangered Palestinian female detainees and support them in their battle against the brutal occupation.
