Oman’s “Al-Watan” Newspaper: Syria’s return to the Arab League restores Arab effective role

Muscat-(ST)- The Omani newspaper “Al-Watan” affirmed in its editorial on Tuesday that Syria’s return to the Arab League represents a revision of the wrong Arab positions and policies adopted against Syria for more than a decade.

The newspaper pointed out that “the Arab region is going through a delicate and pivotal stage in its history that needs its countries to unite and support each other today more than ever before, as a result of crises and problems that affected all countries of the region, especially in the last decade and created gaps through which some parties that wanted evil entered the countries of the region.

The newspaper noted the divisions in the region that had major repercussions suffered by the Arab peoples.

“Divisions made these countries become convinced about the unity of destiny and the need to jump over the narrow interests, and work to find effective solutions that restore security and stability to the region,” the newspaper said.

It clarified that the first of these steps is the return of the beating heart of Arabism, Syria, to the League of Arab States, a step that will have a great impact that serves the interest of all Arab countries and achieves stability, security and prosperity for their peoples.

The newspaper stressed that the Syria’s return is a step towards more Arab cooperation, which creates a unified Arab position that gives weight to Arab action, and makes the Arab decision heard not only at the regional level, but goes beyond that to reach a global scale.

The countries of the region possess capabilities and elements that make them effective not only in shaping their future, but also in their ability to protect their interests globally, if they have the common will to achieve that.
