Occupation Troops Shoot, Injure Two Palestinians In West Bank

Two Palestinian teenagers have been injured in clashes between occupation soldiers and a group of Palestinian demonstrators in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, during which the Israelis fired live bullets to disperse the crowd.

On Saturday, Palestinians staged a protest in the village of Burin, located 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) southwest of Nablus, to denounce the ongoing Israeli settlement activities and construction of the controversial separation wall in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Scuffles broke out between dozens of Palestinian youths and Israeli troops after the latter stormed the protesters and fired their guns to break up the demonstration.

Abbas Jamal Asous, 18, and 14-year-old Muhammad Yasser Najjar were injured by Israeli gunfire.

Despite widespread global condemnation of Israel’s land grab policies, Tel Aviv has approved a series of plans for new settler units in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) in recent months.

On December 24, 2014, Israel gave the green light for the construction of 380 new settler units in two areas of East al-Quds.

The presence and continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine has created a major obstacle for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, including East al-Quds, in 1967.

The United Nations and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were occupied by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on occupied lands.
