Israeli occupation’s settlement plans in the occupied Syrian Golan undermine regional stability, says Nebenzia

New York, (ST) – Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, stressed that the that the Israeli occupation entity’s settlement plans in the occupied Syrian Arab Golan threaten to undermine regional stability.

RT website quoted Nebenzia as saying during a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation in the Middle East and developments in the Palestinian cause, in particular that, “Israel’s settlement plans in the occupied Syrian Golan also threaten to undermine regional stability.” He referred to the high frequency of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, with the occupation government condoning those actions.

Nebenzia also expressed his country’s concern about the escalation of tension in occupied Al-Qudsm(Jerusalem). He pointed out that Russia is closely following developments in the occupied West Bank and Al-Quds (Jerusalem), where the Israeli security forces used tear gas and rubber bullets against Palestinian demonstrators in the Temple Mount, which resulted in the injury of hundreds of people. He stressed the need to prevent a violation of the legal and historical status of the holy places.

Nebenzia also warned (Israel) against taking measures aimed at imposing irreversible facts on the ground, including demolishing Palestinian homes, confiscating their property and carrying out arbitrary arrests. He called for the resumption of the peace settlement process based on the internationally recognized legal base. He stressed that failure to resolve the issue the Palestinian cause is the main reason for the escalation of violence in the region.

Nebenzia stressed the need to exercise restraint and refrain from provocative steps and unilateral measures in order to avoid a repetition of the scenario of last May. He pointed out that the United Nations Coordinator for the Middle East Tor Venesland stressed in his speech that the situation continues to escalate due to the  occupation’s aggressive settlement policy in violation of international law in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Nebenzia said that it is impossible to move forward in the peace process without achieving Palestinian reconciliation.He expressed  his country’s readiness to provide the necessary assistance in this direction.
