Occupation’s Decision to Hold “Local Council” Elections in Occupied Syrian Golan Illegal: Protestors
QUNEITRA, (ST)- The occupied Syrian Golan will continue to be a Syrian Arab land and that the Golan will return to the Syrian national sovereignty sooner or later, the people of Quneitra stressed during a protest they organized on Sunday to condemn the Israeli occupation’s illegal decision to hold the so-called “local councils” elections in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Protestors, who gathered in front of the governorate’s building expressed their solidarity with the locals of the occupied villages of Majdal Shams, Masaada, Baqaatha, Ayn Qanya, and al-Ghajar, affirmed that all the decisions made by the occupation authorities are null and void and of no legal value.
Quneitra Governor Ahmad Sheikh Abdul Qader said the Zionist occupation’s decision to hold the “local council” elections is illegal and it comes within the framework of a plan to judaize the Syrian Golan.
Other speakers during protest rejected the Israeli occupation’s decision and stressed that the occupation’s attempt to judaise the Golan are doomed to failure.
Israeli Occupation Decision Contradicts Geneva Agreements
On its part, the Committee for Supporting the Liberated Syrian Prisoners and Detainees in the Israeli jails issued a statement condemning the racial and provocative Israeli decision.
‘The decision is null and void and it contradicts Geneva third and fourth agreements relating to the treatment of civilians under occupation.
The statement reiterated that the Golan is an occupied Syrian Arab land on which the occupation is not allowed to apply its laws.
Head of the committee, liberated prisoner Al- al-Younis, urged the International Committee of the Red Cross and the human rights organization to play their legal and humanitarian role and ask “Israel” to give up its decision and stop its oppressive and provocative practices against the people of Golan, who have the right to self determination.
Occupation Authority Doesn’t Have the Right to Hold Elections in Occupied Lands
The United Nations Association of Syria also condemned the new decision by the Israeli occupation and said in a letter to the UN Chief Antonio Guterres that “according to the international law, the occupation authority doesn’t have the right to hold elections in occupied lands”.
The Association called on the United Nations to adopt a clear stance that condemns the Israeli decision.
