“Nour”…First art exhibition of the Brazilian abstractionist Luis Dolino in Syria 

Damascus (ST) – The Brazilian Abstract artist Luis Dolino held his first exhibition in Syria “Nour”, which was organized by the Brazilian Embassy in Damascus in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and with an exclusive sponsorship of Syriatel. Dolino depicted the theme of identity and the cultural spirit of the present era. 

The 34 paintings of the pioneer of the abstract orientation Dolino, which were embraced by the Gold Gallery in the National Museum in Damascus, relied on the abstract style of art, and the color intersections created straight lines that were continuous at times and intermittent at other times. 

“Nour” exhibition deals with the issue of identity through artistic symbols and harmonious and balanced colors that form inspiring combinations that give the viewer the freedom to interpret, choose the meaning, and understand the message through the emotions it receives. 

The exhibition adopted the abstract style in the paintings and formed a window for dialogue and artistic and cultural exchange at all levels between Syria and other countries. 

In her speech during the opening of the exhibition, the Minister of Culture Lubanah Mshaweh stated that the exhibition of the famous Brazilian artist Luis Dolino is an opportunity for the Syrian plastic artists to get acquainted for the first time with the works of this abstract avant-garde artist, classified among the 100 most important plastic artists in the world. 

She noted that the artist’s paintings are far from realism, saturated with contradictions, and they give a sense of simplicity amidst a world that is full of complexity. 

Mshaweh stressed the importance of the Syrian culture in strengthening relations with countries around the world. 

The Brazilian Ambassador to Damascus Andre Santos stressed the depth of the historical relations between Syria and Brazil, explaining that this cultural event is a support for friendship and strengthening ties between the two countries. 

Santos said: “Syria has been called the cradle of civilizations for thousands of years, because it has a great heritage and culture,” expressing his happiness and gratitude for holding this exhibition at the National Museum in Damascus. 

He noted that the artist Dolino is one of the greatest Brazilian artists and one of the best abstract painters whose work has been exhibited all over the world. 

Director General of Antiquities and Museums in Syria Nazir Awad said stressed the return of the museum to take its rightful role in the cultural and educational life, as it is the most important ancient Arab museum, and it contains a huge art collection, and it is considered as one of the leading art collections in the world, and it has a global classification despite the of its ancient construction”. 

He noted that the Directorate has rehabilitated the Gold gallery to host plastic art exhibitions dealing with modern and contemporary art and it has provided all logistical support for the success of activities that support the artistic movement in Syria.
