In the conduct of any military operation, targeting civilians is prohibited under article 57 of the international humanitarian law, but what if these civilians are hundreds of displaced people who found no safe place to go except a school to shelter them from the brutal bombardment of a criminal occupying entity. A few days ago, the Israeli occupation committed a horrible massacre in Gaza Strip by striking the Al-Tab’een school in the neighborhood of Al-Daraj in central Gaza city that claimed the lives of more than a hundred innocent people, including women, children and old people and wounded dozens. Some of these people were praying and some others were asleep and all of a sudden, they were turned into corpses and body parts, and the pretext is always ready: “the school was a command center for Hamas”, a lie usually used by “Israel” to justify its massacres. What exacerbated the suffering is the catastrophic situation of hospitals in the light of severe shortage of medical supplies and resources due to the suffocating Israeli siege.
This horrific scene, like many other previous ones, didn’t move the feelings of western and US officials who responded by reiterating their support for Israel’s so-called “right to self-defense”, thereby giving a green light to this usurping entity to continue the genocide in Gaza in flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws.
Of course, this mass murder and ethnic cleansing crime is not the first to be committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians. Thousands of other massacres and crimes against humanity have been perpetrated in Gaza Strip by the occupation since the beginning of its aggression on October 7th, 2023, with the full political and military support and funding of the US and its allies, while the world is watching the bloodshed and doing nothing to force this savage entity to stop its genocidal war, as if the scene of people being killed and starved to death had become normal, a goal that Israel has been seeking to achieve.
The continuous massacres by the occupation indicate its insistence on making the Palestinians in a state of continuous displacement and confirm its intention to disrupt any possible negotiations to find a solution even after most of Gaza has been reduced to rubble and nearly 40,000 Palestinians have been martyred, and almost the entire population of the strip has become displaced amid severe shortage of food, clean water, decent shelter and medical services,
The Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, backed by the US and its allies, may develop into a global conflict if it is not stopped, but, putting an end to this bloodshed can’t be achieved through calling on the perpetrators to stop the killing or through repeatedly condemning the crimes or being neutral. What is urgently needed is building a unified movement that takes a deterrent action that leads to halting the atrocities of the Israeli entity and ending the war.
