“Noon Group” an exhibition for handmade products

The Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh hosted a collective exhibition held by the Noon Handicrafts Group, under the supervision of artist Rana Kanawati.

The participating women displayed  various handmade products, paintings including accessories, embroideries, wools, clothes, women bags, toys that reflects the level of talents and creations of Syrian women in this type of handcrafts.

The organizer of the exhibition and the supervisor of the group Rana Kanawati told Syria Times: “The Noon Group for Artistic and Handicrafts was founded in 2014. Our number today has become 21”.

 “Our exhibition includes the works of 18 participants, from the Noon Group. The members of the group are artists of all ages, women, men and youth and most of them are craftswomen and craftsmen. The exhibition is an artistic and social activity – it is a real opportunity for us to exchange experiences,” Kanawati said.

“Our exhibition includes traditional Syrian crafts. The group’s products vary between traditional crafts such as embroideries, Damascene paint, traditional dolls, straw and bamboo works, handmade soap, and loom work such as rugs and bags. Stone mosaics and copper.” she added.

“The Noon group aims to develop handmade products through training and supervision, in addition to giving real marketing opportunities to the participants,” Rana said.

Participant Yusr Safadi shows handmade dolls. She started her project of making dolls two years ago.

Yusr participated in several Bazaars in different countries including EUA, Canada, and Sweden. Yusr also makes handmade crafts such as embroideries, wax, and soap. She also draws paintings and Arabic calligraphy.

Jumana Malal displayed handmade wool  products as scarves, hats, small toys, key chains, and other things for social occasions.

“I have been participating with the group for ten years. I participate in this event to acquaint people  with my products.” Jumana said.

Another participant Eng. Haifa al-Shakfa exhibits  natural cosmetic  products such as creams and shampoos made from natural materials such as herbs and honey.

Haifa told Syria Times: “I have been working in this craft for 25 years and I have participated in many exhibitions and bazaars since 2011. My aim in participating in this exhibition is to market my products and make people familiar with my natural products.”

For her part, Asmahan Hussein shows handmade accessories for young women. This is her second participation  in this exhibition . She has been working in this craft since twenty years

Asmahan sees that this exhibition is a good opportunity to show and market her handmade products.

Firyal Dardar, who is a drawing teacher, specializes in making handmade bags. This is her first participation with the  Noon group .She displays diverse models of women bags.

Firyal has been working bag creation  since a year and has participated in several bazaars and exhibitions to familiarize   peoplewith her handmade works.

Farah Souqia, displays handmade crochets and wool clothes. She has participated in this event for ten years in order to market her products.

In addition, Abeer Bakir shows crystal ornaments “I have been working in this craft for four years.I hope to market my work”.
