No Reset of Russian-US Ties as Long as Sanctions Remain, Says Medvedev

MOSCOW – US sanctions have seriously damaged Russian-US ties, and the “reset” of bilateral relations is impossible as long as the unilateral restrictions are in place, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday.

It is absolutely impossible. Let’s be clear: we did not come up with these sanctions. Our international partners did. As we say in Russia, let God be their judge,” Medvedev said.

The Russian prime minister said in an interview with CNBC that any suggestion of a “reset” was out of the question.

“We will overcome these sanctions. I have no doubt that after a while these sanctions will dissipate, there will be no more sanctions. But we can’t deny the fact that they have damaged our relations,” he went on.

Relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated significantly amid the crisis in Ukraine, as Western politicians and media have repeatedly accused Russia of meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs and aiding independence supporters in the country’s southeast. Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations.
