Nigeria calls for removing sanctions imposed on Syria

ABUJA, March.22, (ST)-Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has called for removing the unjustified sanctions being imposed on Syria, which increase the suffering of the Syrian people.

Onyeama’s remarks came during his meeting with Firass al-Abdullah, the Acting Charge de Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday.

“The visit of President Bashar Al-Assad to the UAE is a good development and a welcomed step… It is an indication to Syria’s return to the international and Arab arena.” The Nigerian Minister said.

He added that the sanctions being imposed on Syria are unjustified and they increase the Syrians’ suffering, asserting that his country will spare no effort to support Syria and its efforts to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For his part, Al-Abdullah briefed the minister on the recent developments in Syria and the region, mainly the significant visit of President al-Assad to the UAE and its outcomes at all levels.
