TUNIS, (ST) – Taieb Baccouch, Secretary General of “Nidaa Tounes” Party, which won the latest parliamentary polls in Tunisia, has said that his party intends to restore relations with Syria as soon as the new government is formed.
Interviewed by “Sky News Arabic” yesterday, Baccouch said “severing the diplomatic relations with the sisterly country of Syria is one of the grave political and diplomatic mistakes. We have opposed that decision and now we are backing reviving these relations.”
“Tunisia’s policies and diplomatic principles are against cutting ties with any country, rather they support mediation to attain solutions to crises and to fix inter-Arab relations,” The Tunisian part official said, stressing that severing ties with Syria has harmed the interests of the Tunisians living there.”
Nidaa Tounes party has won 85 seats in the country’s parliament following the recently held elections defeating the ruling “Islamist” Ennahda party which won 69 seats.
