New Technology using solar energy invented by Syrian Student under supervision of Syrian Professor

Despite the long harsh years of the war against their country, the Syrians, prove every day that they are a steadfast and civilized people and that Syria deserves life.  .

Marah F. Mariam is a living and sincere example of Syrian youth, Those who triumphed over war ,ignorance and destruction with the power of their will, knowledge and culture, have succeeded in being ambassadors of their country in all international scientific forums.

Professor Carlo Y. Makdisie, supervisor of the research presented by the student Marah, said: “The research presented by Marah to the first international conference, which is the Portable Field Hospital Fed From Solar System Depends On Interleaved Boost Converter (IBC), embodies the optimum utilization of the solar system technologies and the solutions that this technology provides during unusual circumstances”.

“The proposed design helps significantly save costs, and maintenance can be done by Syrian technicians at a minimal cost without the need to replace the block or import it from abroad. There are several application areas for the proposed design, such as: cellular communication systems, portable hospitals, wind and solar generation systems, and many others. The proposed design can be applied in Syria at very simple cost and can operate with high reliability,” Dr. Makdisie added.

To know more about this technology, the Syria Times e-newspaper, met researcher  Marah F. Mariam, who said: ” As an electrical engineering student, I was searching for the best course for my educational and professional career, thanks to Dr. Carlo who has always supported me, I have been able to start my research. The idea was a portable field hospital, that can be used anywhere, in the event of a natural disaster or wars etc…This hospital has hybrid feeding systems,a  main line from the grid if accessible, diesel generators and solar panels”.

Mariam went on to say: “Our paper studied the interleaved boost converter (IBC) which is an interface used between the solar panels and the equipment in the hospital .We prepared the study, and did a simulation of the different topologies of the IBC using MATLAB Simulink, and for the hospital we used DiaLux program.

The simulation process was done according to the frequency and duty cycle changes, and the result was technically satisfying, that the Total Harmonics Distortion was so small that they can’t be noticed , and according to our simulation, a practical model of this IBC has been done”.

Thanks God, our research was accepted at the first international conference on Electro-mechanical Engineering at the University of Technology in Baghdad – Iraq.

“The conference was set to be on December 25th and 26th, however it was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances to February 25th and 26th, the main challenge for me was that we weren’t notified about the timing of our presentation, until 11 pm the night before. Professor Carlo was in Latakia and I was in Damascus so it was very hard for me to prepare properly.  I was so stressed since  this is my first participation in an international conference, and I had to show what I have achieved.  Professor Makdisie was amazingly supportive and stayed up all night communicating with me online, guiding me, and mentoring my presentation.

I am grateful for his support and I promise that I will not stop here. I will continue my educational achievement and prove myself as a Syrian researcher in the international scientific forums”, Mariam concluded.

It is worth mentioning that the research was approved for publication in a journal at SCOPUS database, and received a certificate of participation and acceptance for publication, in addition to an appreciation prize from the conference’s organizing committee.

The 1st  international conference on Electro- mechnical Engineering and its Applications (ICEMEA) aims to provide an international forum for researchers, experts, and engineers all over the world to exchange ideas and discuss recent developments in the fields of electro-mechanical engineering and its applications.
