New Humanity Org. calls for immediate lifting of unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria

Rome (ST): The New Humanity organization has called for immediately lifting of the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, especially those targeting the health sector, as it is basic in confronting the Corona virus pandemic currently spread all over the world.

The Change. Org website quoted Marco De Silvio  chairman of the non-governmental organization, based in Rome, as saying in a letter delivered to the UN Secretary General and a number of European organizations : ” We call on the EU and the US to eliminate any legal obstacles that hinder the exchange of funds and goods the Syrian people need to confront Corona virus pandemic. He demanded a review on the embargo being imposed on Syria. He also said  effective aid should be offered to the  Syrians to confront Corona virus pandemic.

Silvio considered that offering  rapid assistance to the Syrians is a moral duty, stressing that the objective of protecting the Syrian people should surpass any political or ideological orientation, calling for the necessity of lifting the unilateral coercive measures, especially those targeting the health sector.

He warned against the grave situation that resulted from the blockade being imposed on Syria by the US and the EU, especially the shortage in medicine and medical equipment, noting that before 2011, the health system in Syria was one of the most developed in the Middle East and Syria achieved self-sufficiency in many medicines.

Silvio concluded that the sanctions are unfair and unacceptable because they deprive the Syrian people from that aid that helps in confronting the fatal spread of Covid 19 virus.

Earlier, the US Peace Council had called on the US to immediately lift the unilateral sanctions imposed on more than 30 states including Syria, especially in light of the speedy spread of the Corona virus pandemic all over the world.
