New horizons in Syria-Iran strategic ties to open up, stresses al-Halqi

DAMASCUS,(ST)_The cabinet’s today session zeroed in on the results of the Syrian delegation’s recent visit to Iran plus the economic and services situation over the past week in the country , according to the official news agency.

Prime Minister Dr. Wael al-Halqi, who headed the delegation to Iran, said the visit upgraded the strategic ties between the two countries and opened new horizons for cementing bilateral ties in all fields that meet the aspirations of the two counties’ peoples and enhance their resistance to colonial plots, which target the region’s security and stability.

He clarified that the talks held with Iranian senior officials- during the visit- dealt with Geneva-2 conference on Syria, means of enhancing national security between the two countries and cooperation and coordination in combating terrorism, Takfiri thinking, extremism and violence.

Al-Halqi added that the ‘successful’ visit also resulted in reactivating the deals signed by the two countries in the field of economic cooperation.

He underscored that the Syrian-Iranian bilateral cooperation is to be evaluated continuously according to directives of the two country’s leaders.

Local production

On the other hand, the premier urged ministers to reactivate production process in economic institutions and supporting the industrial sector in order to ensure citizens’ main requirements.

The reactivation of local production aims also to enhance self-reliance and national capability to limit imports.

As for services sector, al-Halqi asked for working hard to meet citizens’ need despite the terrorist groups’ incessant attacks on this sector, mainly electricity.

Terrorist acts

“Terrorist attacks will make us even more determined in hunting down the terrorist groups and defeating them as well as in reactivating all sectors to enhance the Syrian citizen’s steadfastness,” he said.

The cabinet denounced the most recent terrorist attack which took place today in al-Jesr al-Abyad area in the capital [Damascus] leaving 4 citizens martyred and several others wounded.

It blamed criminal acts on the countries that sponsor terrorism in Syria.
