DAMASCUS, (ST)-The new European sanctions imposed on Syrian scientists and persons over allegations relating to Khan Sheikhoun chemical incident are unjustified and they reflect the recklessness of the European officials and their insistence to keep supporting the crimes of the terrorist organizations in Syria and to mislead the international public opinion, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stressed.
The European Union continues its hysterical campaign against Syria by deciding to impose new sanctions against Syrian scientists and persons who are performing their duties to push forward the development process and counterterrorism efforts in Syria, the source told SANA on Tuesday.
The unjustified new EU sanctions come before the end of investigation in the Khan Sheikoun incident in which terrorist groups used chemical weapon against innocent civilians, said the source, noting that the EU countries refused Syria’s call for sending an investigation mission from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons OPCW to Idleb’s Khan sheikhoun town and to al-Shairat airbase in Homs.
The source went on to say that “as it did before, Syria is now repeating its affirmation that it absolutely doesn’t possess any chemical weapons and that it never used such weapons at any time or under any circumstances or in any place, because it originally doesn’t have them after it has implemented all its commitments as being a member in the OPCW”.
At the same time, the source added, Syria strongly condemns the new European measures and stresses that that the EU sanctions constitute a direct support for the terrorists and cover up the terrorists’ crimes.
The source concluded by saying that these sanctions indicate the European Union’s lack of moral standards in dealing with the crises facing the world of today, particularly within the framework of the global war on terror.
If these sanctions continue they will lead the EU to lose its credibility and role in finding solutions to international problems, according to the source .
