New “Doha Coalition” Head: Al Saud Authorities Provided “Opposition Fighters” with Sophisticated Weapons

ISTANBUL- The new leader of the so-called “Doha Coalition”, a main Syrian “opposition” group, Ahmad al-Jarba revealed in his first statement that the Al Saud authorities have provided what he called “opposition fighters” in Syria with sophisticated weapons.

Jarba, who has close connection with Saudi Arabia and who was appointed as head of the “Doha Coalition” last Saturday in Istanbul, told Reuters in an interview that he expected the “advanced weapons are due to reach the armed opposition groups from Saudi Arabia soon.”

Many Western intelligence reports had affirmed that most of the weapons supplied by Gulf and Western countries to so- called “opposition fighters” fall in the hands of the terrorist al-Qaeda-affiliated group of Jabhet al-Nusra (Al-Nusra Front).

Jarba, whose statement reflected the “opposition’s” rejection of dialogue to solve the crisis and call for more terrorism against the Syrians, said: “the opposition won’t take part in the Geneva conference proposed by the United States and Russia unless its military situation becomes strong.”

“If there is a will to go to Geneva, the opposition military situation must be strong, but the situation on ground now is actually weak,” he admitted.

“As head of the coalition, my priority will be supporting all kinds of arms supplies to the free Army”, he added.

Washington and Moscow had agreed to hold an international conference on Syria to find a political solution to the crisis. However, the US administration exerted no effort to convince the “opposition”, which gets US military, political and media support, to accept the political solution. Instead the U.S has increased its military aid to the armed groups.

Several media reports indicated that the majority of the so-called “Free Army” militias are no more than mercenaries who came from tens of countries and who have been terrorizing the Syrian people and attacking their private and public properties.

Foreign parties including the United States in addition to Saudi authorities had intervened in the process of choosing al-Jarba to lead the “Doha Coalition”. This stresses that the coalition is nothing but a tool in the hands of anti-Syria foreign forces.
