New Batch of Gunmen Evacuated from al-Waer Neighborhood in Homs Countryside

HOMS, (ST)-Procedures to evacuate a new batch of gunmen from al-Waer neighborhood in Homs countryside started this morning within the framework of implementing the third phase of the settlement agreement reached in this district in order to empty it from gunmen and weapon and to pave the way for the return of the state’s institutions.

 Some 120 gunmen are due to be evacuated from al-Waer neighborhood in Homs countryside and be transferred to al-Dar al-Kabira town in Homs northern countryside , Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi said, noting that heavy weapons were handed over to the Syrian authorities.

 Dialogue among the Syrians “without interference by any party would lead to reaching agreements to restore security and stability to many areas in implementation of the government’s program to support local reconciliations and help displaced families’ return to their original areas.

The governor welcomed the participation of the Russian Coordination Center in Hmeimim airbase in reactivating al-Waer settlement agreement, supporting the government-backed Syrian-Syrian dialogue and settling the legal status if tens of gunmen in accordance with Amnesty decree No.15 for 2016.

Al-Barazi described the absence of the United Nations from the process of reconciliation and settlement as “unconstructive and astonishing”.

On Monday, the United Nations hampered the process of evacuating 250 gunmen along with their families from al-Waer neighborhood towards Idleb northern countryside claiming that the situation was unsafe.  

He urged all gunmen to benefit from the amnesty decree, expel strangers and return to normal life under the umbrella of the homeland.

Yesterday some 130 people from al-Rastan, Tadmur and Talbisa areas in Homs countryside turned themselves in to competent authorities and get their legal status settled within the framework of implementing the amnesty decree and enhancing local reconciliation.
