Nebenzya: ICC arrest warrant for Russian president “cynical and legally insignificant”

UNITED NATIONS- International Criminal Court (ICC), which is ready to exercise pseudo-justice on the orders of the West, has proved its inferiority, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzya said speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, according to Tass News Agency.

“This biased, politicized and incompetent international court has once again proved its inferiority. The ICC is a puppet in the hands of the collective West, which is always ready to exercise pseudo-justice on order,” he stressed.

“It is especially cynical that legally insignificant decisions (a warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin – TASS) were made public on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the US illegal invasion of Iraq, where the ICC had jurisdiction, but did nothing to bring the perpetrators to responsibility,” Nebenzya said.

“Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute. The ICC does not have jurisdiction over Russia and its citizens. We consider any documents emanating from this body as illegal and void,” Nebenzya noted.

On Friday, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.

Zakharova: ICC decisions are of no consequence, null and void in Russia

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, for her part, said that decisions of the International Criminal Court are of no consequence in Russia and any arrest warrants are null and void.

“Decisions of the International Criminal Court are of no consequence in our country, including from the legal perspective,” Zakharova said on Telegram. “Russia isn’t a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and is under no obligation arising from it. Russia doesn’t cooperate with the organization, and any potential arrest ‘recipes’ originating from the international court will be null and void for us.”

Volodin: “We consider any offensive action against Putin as aggression against Russia”

Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin described the ICC’s decision to issue arrest warrant for president Putin as a western hysteria.

“The nonsense that came out of The Hague says one thing: the West is hysterical, and the western Hague court documents do not apply to Russia,” Volodin stressed, saying “we consider any offensive action against the Russian Federation’s president as aggression against our country,” Volodin said.
