Nebenzia: The calls to deprive Russia of the presidency of the Security Council are absurd

Moscow (ST): Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, confirmed that the calls made by some countries to deprive Russia of its right to preside over the UN Security Council, and to hand it over to another party, are absurd and ridiculous.

Sputnik quoted Nebenzia as saying: All things went ahead during the Russian presidency of the Council as planned completely, and all events were held according to the scheduled program.

Nebenzia added: “What matters is that the presidency of the Council passed without problems despite absurd attempts by some countries to accuse us that we might abuse the presidency, and that our presidency should be transferred to another party because Russia, as they claim, is not qualified to lead the Security Council.” He added: “Invitations like this are against every conceivable rule.”

Russia held the rotating presidency of the Security Council last April.
