Nebenzia: Russia must be compensated for the damage caused by the North Stream bombing

New York (ST): Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, affirmed that the countries behind the bombing of the North Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea last September must compensate Russia for the damage incurred by this act, pointing out that in this case, the motive, perpetrator and method of the crime cannot be doubted.

During a session of the UN Security Council to discuss the text of the project put forward by Moscow, which calls for the establishment of a committee to investigate into the sabotage of the North Stream pipelines, Nebenzia said: “The method of approach today is different from the one that followed the bombing of the North Stream, and everyone has an idea of who the perpetrator is. We do not trust European countries that are conducting an investigation in this regard because they aim to erase traces and protect the United States . We trust the Secretary-General and the UN Security Council, so we demand that you supervise an international investigation.

Nebenzia added, “Your view of the draft resolution will determine for us the next steps regarding the process of sabotaging the North Stream,” noting that the first round of consultations on Russia’s decision showed that the West is not interested in an objective investigation on this issue.
