Nebenzia: Only Syrians Lead Political Process in Their Country without Any Foreign Interference

NEW YORK- Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said that the Syrians are the only ones who are entitled to lead political process in their country without any foreign interference, according to SANA.

Speaking at a UNSC session on Thursday Nebenzia said the international community should support efforts that aim to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria and not to put obstacles that would prolong it.

Nebenzia said that there is an opportunity to launch a real and lasting political process in Syria based on what the guarantors states of the Astana process have done , and in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, stressing that the final word is for the Syrian people in the end.

He pointed out to the necessity of consensus on the members participating in the Committee to discuss the current constitution as a precondition in order to ensure they receive broad support from the Syrian people, indicating that these steps will mark the beginning of a long-term and real political process implemented by the Syrians themselves with the support of the United Nations in accordance with resolution no.2254 and the decisions of Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi.
