BRUSSELS,(ST) _ NATO’s Chief, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the best way to resolve the crisis in Syria is a political solution and that NATO has to intention to interfere in Syria.
In an interview with the BBC Thursday Rasmussen said : “Our goal is to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria …” We call for transitional process towards a democratic society to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people, “pointing to the distinct difference between the situation in Libya and that in Syria, where there is no international mandate to intervene.
Concerning the deployment of NATO Patriot missiles on the Turkish-Syrian border, Rasmussen claimed, that this move is “purely defensive”.
On NATO ‘s position concerning the current events in Mali, Rasmussen confirmed that NATO has no intention for military intervention in Mali, noting that “some of our allies are engaged in a military operation there, at the request of the president of Mali.
