NATO Chief : No Intention to Interfere in Syria

 

 

 

BRUSSELS,(ST)  _ NATO’s Chief,  Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the best way to resolve the crisis in Syria is a political solution and that NATO has to intention to interfere  in Syria.

In an interview with the  BBC Thursday Rasmussen  said : “Our goal is to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria …” We call for  transitional   process towards a democratic society to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people, “pointing to the distinct difference between the situation in Libya and that  in Syria, where there is no international mandate to intervene.

Concerning  the deployment of NATO Patriot missiles on the Turkish-Syrian border, Rasmussen claimed,  that this move  is “purely defensive”.

On NATO ‘s position  concerning the  current events in Mali, Rasmussen confirmed  that NATO has no intention  for  military intervention in Mali, noting  that “some of our allies are engaged in a military operation there,  at the request of the president of Mali.  It is necessary to take swift action to resolve the crisis apart from any interference by NATO.”
