DAMASCUS, (ST) – Aiming to develop the quality infrastructure in Syria to cope with international requirements, the government has recently approved the Document of the National Quality Program.
The document, which was prepared by the program’s administration with the participation of a number of concerned ministries, is to be implemented in coordination with the International Planning and Cooperation Agency.
According to the local “al-Thawra” newspaper, the document affirms the need to create a suitable environment for quality through the issuance of new legislations and the amendment of the implemented laws relating to specifications, standardization, accreditation, market control and products safety. The document focuses on amending the law of the Syrian Arab Specifications and Standardization Commission with the purpose of organizing the process of standardization.
The document also calls for preparing a bill to amend the current standardization law to cope with international standards in this respect so as to cover the scientific, industrial and legal metrology.
It also called for issuing another bill to establish a national accreditation system which is able to grant quality certification and supervise the administration, laboratories and control regulations in a way that provides accreditation services in accordance with international requirements.
