National Project to Revive Barada River launched

 Damascus University in cooperation with Damascus Governorate on Wednesday launched the national project to revive Barada River which includes an assessment as well as a comprehensive survey for the situation of the river and suggests integrated solutions to its problems starting from the area where it springs to the downstream area.  

The project, which is supported by the Higher Commission of Scientific Research, is the result of different research works and workshops, according to Ghada Bilal, Deputy Dean of the Higher Institute for Regional Planning and Director of the project.

She said that the suggested solutions will lead to achieving the revival of the river.

On his part, Damascus Governor Adel Al-Olabi said that the project enjoys the government’s support with the aim of preserving Barada River, keeping it clean, tackling the urban encroachments near the river and finding sustainable environmental solutions.

 Barada is the a main river in Damascus. It flows through Eyn Al-Fijah Spring that irrigates Damascus and its countryside.
