“National Media and Current Challenges” Workshop Urges New Media Strategy

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Participants in the workshop on “National Media and the Current Challenges” recommended that a new media strategy should be developed starting from the independence of the media and based on initiatives and on coping with scientific and technological development. They called for enhancing the role of the media to embody the aspirations of the all social categories and national political forces.

In a statement issued at the conclusion of the workshop on Thursday, the participants stressed the need to develop the media plan to cope with the project of reconstruction and to achieve more openness so as to give further opportunities  for Arab and foreign mass media to enter Syria and report facts.

They urged communications and interaction with friendly research and studies centers and with the mass media which uncovers the lies and fabrications made by misleading media channels against Syria.

According to the statement, the participants called for more attractiveness in the form and content of reports and for immediate and quick broadcasting of news.

The statement affirmed the necessity of encouraging the private sector to establish media establishments and media production companies that can launch satellite channels and media bodies in different languages.

It also recommended the holding of scientific programs aiming at “restoring the damaged psychological, intellectual and ethical side of people and society because of the aggression.

The recommendations also included a call for establishing centers for media studies and polls in addition to training centers for enhancing the skills of political analysts.

They also urged the establishment of a committee of experts to be tasked with identifying the hostile media’s political and economic terms and replacing them with unified right and legal ones in the national media.

They called for consolidating cooperation between the ministries of information and defense to help citizens get a real image of the operations carried out by the Syrian Arab army.

Launching a satellite station as a mouthpiece for resistant media and progressive nationalist parties in the face of pro-western and the Petrodollar-financed media was called for.

The need to employ the works of art to rebuild the national and cultural status in the coming era was also among the recommendations of the workshop.
