National Dialogue Committee: Pressuring Syria Neighbors to Prevent Flow of Terrorists

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ The delegation representing the Syrian National Dialogue Committee has called, for concerted international efforts to stop terrorism and to pressure on Syria’s neighboring countries, which facilitate the flow of terrorists and support them financially and logistically, to close the borders, so as contribute to resolving the crisis in Syria.

In a press conference yesterday after meeting with UN Deputy special envoy to Syria, Ramsey Ramsey, at Damascus Sheraton Hotel, the delegation called also for the need of the participation of all national opposition forces, comprising parties of political forces and independent figures within Syria to take part in the political dialogue.

Secretary General of the People’s Party, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Melhem explained that “talks with Ramsey dealt with de Mistura initiative concerning the freezing of the fighting in Aleppo, and means to ensure its success.

Secretary General of the National Youth Justice and Development party Bruin Ibrahim confirmed that the delegation conveyed views of the national opposition parties, and urged the UN to deplore Israel for its violation of Syrian sovereignty, ” noting the efforts of UN envoy de Mistura and support for a political solution to the crisis.

Ibrahim stressed the need to pressure Syria’s neighbor countries, which facilitate the flow of terrorists and support them financially and logistically, to close their borders, so as facilitate resolving the crisis.

For his part, Secretary General of the Syrian National People’s Party Maher Mirhij explained that talks focused onimplementing de Mistura initiative in freezing fighting and mechanism of its implementation, while Secretary of Solidarity party Mohammed Abu al-Qasim said that Ramsey did not give guarantees to freeze the fighting in Aleppo.

Suheir Sarmini of the Syrian National Youth Party said that talks with the UN envoy focused on stages for freezing fighting in Aleppo.”

Sarmini highlighted main issues discussed in Moscow, mainly finding a political solution through inter-Syrian dialogue and participation of all internal and external political forces, pointing out that civil society is the most important at this stage and the Syrians have the right to defend their safety and decide their self-determination.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian National Dialogue Committee delegation visited Moscow in the on December 7 through 15.  It was composed of national opposition parties, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, the Baath Arab Socialist Party and several parliamentarians.
