National Committee for Cancer Control keen on applying early detection methods to increase cure rates
Damascus (ST): Over several years, the National Committee for Cancer Control in Syria has sought to devote itself to serving cancer patients, and assisting them in early detection methods to achieve the greatest cure rate, to reach today the crystallization of a national vision to confront cancer and achieving its awareness goals.
Within this framework, the National Committee for Cancer Control organized a workshop for media professionals at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, to introduce the work of the National Program for Cancer Control, in addition to introducing the Diagnostic and Radiotherapy Center and the reality of health services and treatment provided to cancer patients in Syria and focusing on the role of the media in health awareness about the disease.
The interventions of the participants in the workshop focused on the importance of psychological support for the patient during the treatment period and beyond, and the need for continued cooperation and joint coordination between the committee and the media professionals on an ongoing basis, to clarify the achievements that have been realized periodically and create sufficient awareness of the importance of early detection of the disease.
Chairperson of the National Committee for Cancer Control, Dr. Arwa Al-Azma, confirmed that after three years of hard work, great achievements have been made including ensuring the necessary infrastructure for the process of controlling cancer, analysis and study of reality, vision of challenges and difficulties, proposing solutions and starting to implement them.
