National Campaign for Early Detection of Cancer Launched

The National Cancer Control Program in Syria has launched today, Tuesday, the first of March 2022, the national campaign for the early detection of three types of cancer (breast, cervical and prostate).

Head of the National Cancer Control Committee, Dr. Arwa Al-Azma, said during a joint press conference with the Ministries of Health, Local Administration and Environment at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus: “The challenges facing the work of the National Cancer Control Program in Syria are inseparable from the challenges faced by the health sector in terms of securing medicine, equipment, logistics, advanced devices, cadres, treatment protocols and others.” Dr. Arwa Al-Azma added: “Mrs. Asma Al-Assad has a major role in launching the National Cancer Control Program.”

For his part, the Assistant Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Dhamiriya, affirmed the full readiness of the directorates in the governorates to provide the services necessary for the completion and success of the national campaign for the early detection of three types of cancer.

The Assistant Minister of Local Administration and Environment Moataz Kattan explained that the Ministry’s contribution is manifested through the governorates, local agencies, administrative units, neighborhood committees and non-governmental organizations to support the medical teams.

The campaign is expected to reach all segments of the Syrian society in an accurate way through unified protocols.
